What You'll
See Live
Six real-time data layers — all from live AIS transponder signals, displayed continuously on your circular nautical scope.
7 Vessel Types
Cargo freighters, tankers, cruise ships, pleasure boats, fishing vessels, search and rescue (SAR) craft, and tugboats — every AIS-broadcasting vessel appears as a live blip on the scope, identified by type.
Destination Ports & ETA
See where every vessel is headed. Live destination data shows port of call, estimated time of arrival (ETA), and voyage status — updated continuously from the ship's own AIS transponder broadcast.
Speed & Course Leaders
Real-time speed over ground and heading for every tracked vessel. Course leader indicators project each ship's current heading forward on the scope — showing instantly where it's going next.
Vessel Identity & Hull Dimensions
Vessel name, ship type, classification, flag state, MMSI, gross tonnage, and registered hull dimensions — pulled live from AIS data and ship registries. Full identification at a tap.
Fading Wake Trails
Fading wake trails trace the recent path of every vessel across the scope — giving you instant visual context on movement history, whether a ship is entering harbour, departing, or cruising a shipping lane.
Navigation Status
Live navigational status for every tracked vessel — Underway, Anchored, or Distress — displayed in real time from the vessel's own AIS broadcast signal.
Real AIS
Marine Data
SkyWatch pulls live AIS (Automatic Identification System) signals — the international maritime tracking standard mandated for commercial vessels. Every ship required to broadcast appears in real time. No delays, no simulated positions.
Full Ship
Data Card
Tap any vessel blip on the scope and a complete data card reveals instantly — pulled live from AIS transponders and ship registry data.
What's on
the Display
Every element of Ships mode is live maritime data — not a simulation.
Radar Scope or
Nautical Map.
Ships mode offers two distinct display views — switch between them instantly with a single tap. Both show the same live AIS data. Same vessels, same positions, completely different visual perspective.
The iconic circular radar scope — concentric range rings, a rotating sweep line, vessel blips with fading wake trails, and course leader indicators projecting each ship's heading. Minimal, glanceable, and instantly readable. Exactly what a bridge navigation display looks like.
A full nautical chart overlay with real coastlines, ports, depth contours, and shipping lane markers — with live AIS vessel positions plotted directly on top. Real maritime cartography rendered inside a circular display. See exactly where each vessel sits relative to land and water.

"I live 200 metres from a container port. When I found out there was a circular desk display that shows every ship in the harbour live, I backed it in about 90 seconds. The AIS data is exactly what I wanted — vessel names, destination ports, everything. My office already has a nautical chart on the wall; now I'll have the live version on my desk."

Ships Mode
Questions
Ships mode tracks every vessel broadcasting an AIS transponder signal — that includes cargo ships, container vessels, bulk carriers, tankers, cruise liners, ferries, fishing vessels, coast guard, private yachts, and tugboats. Vessels not required to carry AIS (very small private craft under 15m in some regions) may not appear, which is consistent across all AIS platforms. Everything broadcasting shows up.
Yes — AIS coverage is primarily coastal and port-based, but you can set SkyWatch to display any maritime region in the world, not just your local area. If you're inland but interested in a specific port or shipping lane, just set your location to that region. You control the centre-point and radius from the app.
AIS positions update every 30 seconds for vessels underway, and every 3 minutes for vessels at anchor. Shore-based AIS receivers give the fastest updates in harbour areas; satellite AIS fills in coverage on open ocean with slightly longer intervals. In busy port areas, updates are essentially continuous.
No — Ships mode is included in your $299 order price along with all 16+ other modes. There is no subscription, no mode unlock fee, and no additional cost ever. Pay once, use everything.
